Presenters:

Chris Harries - Senior Manager Charging Systems

"Imagine starting as an apprentice straight from school in 1998? I was assigned to Propulsion Engineering and 25 years later, I’m providing the leadership for charging systems. Back then the JLR apprenticeship scheme combined college and university with on-the-job learning. The opportunity saw me graduate from Warwick University, initially working on engine control systems, releasing electrical & electronic hardware then subsequently software functions. In 2013 I was promoted into management with responsibility for the driveline control systems. In 2019, I moved to geometric integration of electric drive units, whilst living in Munich and collaborating with BMW. On my return to the UK in 2021, I transferred to high voltage control systems development and now charging!"

Dr. Francesco Garbo - Electric Drive Unit (EDU) Senior Technical Specialist

"After completing my PhD program with a Transmission Tier 1 in 2014, I joined JLR in 2015 as an eMachine engineer, contributing to the iPace and Evoque PHEV programs. In 2018 as the department pivoted to develop inhouse Electric Drive Units (EDUs) I set up the EDU System Design Team. In 2021 I was appointed Senior Technical Specialist to head a large team of 85 people covering all aspects of EDU system design and EDU Attributes. As the 2nd generation of JLR EDUs completed production release, I am now leading the Advanced EDU Design Group for our 3rd generation Units."
