A complete colour television camera has been supplied to the BBC for experimental purposes by Marconi’s Wireless Telegraphy Company Ltd,
The equipment consists of a three-tube colour camera, a camera channel amplifier, and complete signal coding equipment for providing the equivalent of NTSC signals on British 405-line standards, with accessories to make a complete colour-camera channel. The auxiliary apparatus supplied includes black-and-white and tricolour monitors and colour test equipment.
The colour camera consists of an assembly of three 3in ‘Image Orthicon’ tubes of special design. Each of these tubes handles a primary colour component fed into it by a system of dichroic mirrors and lenses which serves to split into three primary colours the light received from the televised scene, as described more fully below.
