Hours of free videos from Cambridge and Oxford universities are now available on iTunes U, an area of the iTunes Store offering free educational content.

The free podcasts can be listened to, or viewed, online or downloaded to a mobile device such as an mp3 player or mobile phone.

Highlights from the Oxford University site include lectures by, and interviews with, world-leading academics and researchers, and a film about the University’s campaign ‘Oxford Thinking’ - the largest fundraising campaign in European university history - featuring funnyman Michael Palin.

Key lectures and interviews include Professor Joseph Stiglitz, former chief economist of the World Bank, on the global financial crisis, Dr Craig Venter on genomics, Sir Nicholas Stern on the economics of climate change, and Professor Julian Savulescu on ethics.

While on the Cambridge iTunes U site, you can download podcasts from Dr David Starkey's history of Cambridge, interviews with some of Cambridge's Nobel Prize winners and an exploration of Cambridge's code-breaking exploits during the second world war.

Cambridge on iTunes U will also include Dr Chris Smith under the guise of 'The Naked Scientists'.

Dr Smith and his team of physicians and researchers strip science down to the basics.

Their popular podcast currently tops the science charts for downloads in the US, as well as hovering in the top 20 science downloads in the iTunes Store for most of the rest of the world.

Take a look at what is available from Oxford University or Cambridge University.
