Renewable energy company Energos will be hosting two open days for local residents and interest groups to learn more about its proposals for a small scale gasification facility in Knowsley, Merseyside.

The company is planning to invest £40 million to construct an international centre of excellence for green waste management, creating 20 long-term skilled jobs and a training and visitor centre at the site.

The proposed facility would process up to 80,000 tonnes of residual waste to generate green electricity for around 10,000 homes, as well as heat for local industry. It would use the patented Energos gasification system - a proven, best practice technology that is in use at six Energos facilities in Norway and Germany, and soon to be commissioned on the Isle of Wight.

A planning application will be submitted following the initial community outreach campaign.
