Job Description

Role Purpose

Responsible to the Senior Project Manager for the management of a team to ensure delivery of assigned projects to required quality, standards, budget and time, in a safe manner, optimising benefit from the investment.


Job Dimensions

• Budgetary – The Senior Project Manager will be expected to manage the following;
• The Project Manager will be required to support business processes with regard budgeting and cost provision for them and their team, will be empowered to manage their budgets and expenditures in accordance with current Financial Authorisation Limits (FAL).
• The role has the variety of both technical and commercial challenges carrying the responsibility of managing functions such as safety and support of the Programme Operations Co-ordinator, Procurement and Contract Management for CapEx optimisation, and compliance under the NEC delivering both professional services (PSC) and engineering construction (ECC) contracts.
• The Project Manager will manage a team of circa 3-5 direct staff and on average 7-10 contracting companies with a range of technical skills through their direct reports.

Knowledge, skills, qualifications and experience

The applicant would be expected to hold a professional qualification’s, completion of the EDF Energy Experienced Management Programme or an equivalent specialist qualification with proven experience is desirable.
The candidate must have a proven track record of managing people and project /programme delivery in a dynamic and challenging business environment. It is also expected the applicant could demonstrate sufficient safety knowledge and skills in a very demanding working environment.
The applicant will possess good communication and inter personal skills and be able to effectively communicate and report at all levels. Proven experience with managing contracts is essential.

Principal Accountabilities

• Co-ordinating communication between IDT and all relevant parties associated with project delivery;
• Responsible for the delivery of projects in line with Capital Programme processes;
• Responsible for the approval of IDT contractor monthly costs and forecasting for both internal and NEC3 and final target price reconciliations in conjunction with a QS and finance
• In conjunction with stakeholders, ;
• Development of work information packages;
• Production and submission of investment cases (in line with EEPW processes)
• Preparation of NEC3 PSC and ECC contracts;
• Development of detailed project plans including milestones;
• Identification of a need for familiarisation training;
• Production of OP&C, CDM compliance and quality assurance documentation
• Project completion and handover;
• Accountable for review of the testing, design and script to gain approval of the Asset Management and work with Asset Management to ensure that operational responsibilities are complete before handover/ hand back;
• Responsible for maintaining the project file and ensuring that all relevant Asset Registration data has been captured;
• Ensure clear alignment with the company objectives, policies, procedures and Health Safety and Sustainability;
• Responsible for the review of projects delivered to identify lessons learnt and capture best practice (EEPW Gate D);
• Responsible for the production and updating of required project reports in line with Capital Programme processes to enable delivery performance to be monitored and managed;
• Liaising with the IDT Programme Operations Manager in the ongoing development of the team to ensure successful completion of the capital programme. Escalate non project specific contractor issues to the Programme Operations Co-ordinator;
• Preparation of EEPW processes and NEC3 activities for presentation at portfolio boards, inclusive of maintenance of risk registers and raid logs;
• Actively be a member of the standby team;
• Ensure that a close working relationship is maintained with design specifically for tendered projects as their will be a requirement to be involved at pre-tender through to final appointment and project management of the principle contractor;

Measures of Success

• Delivery of the Capital Programme major faults, Non trading rechargeable (NTR) and connections portfolio’s as a key member of the delivery management team
• Increased delivery efficiency as evidenced by reducing UCI values
• An on target or better Balanced Scorecard performance

Nature and Scope

The Project Manager role is a function to support the delivery of capital works. The role carries the responsibility of managing approximately 3-5 direct employees and 7-10 contracting companies with a range of activities that are both technical and commercial.

Activities include;

Co-ordinating contractor work / teams through the implementation & subsequent contract life;
• Manage the working relationships & interfaces between contractors, delivery teams, commercial teams and Asset Management.
• Manage coordination and delivery of volume forecasts (demand) and volume’s delivered (supply). Understand the contractors resources and capacity plans to support the Programme Operations Manager in optimising material and outage plans to drive continuous efficiency improvement.
• Ensuring the Capital Programme IDT balanced scorecard and KPI reporting for each contractor is delivered
• Manage the coordination and collation of contractors’ milestones, plans, schedules and forecasts for both expenditure and programme delivery
• Working with contractors to establish work prioritisation and to enhance long-term planning and compliance with contractual financial and work volume commitments.

Provides and Co-ordinates contractor inputs to Portfolio planning
• The Project Manager will oversee the prescribed activities of their NMP portfolio, enabling the business to deliver contractor inputs, whilst preserving business objectives. They will work with to establish the inputs for the materials plan, resource plan, outage plans, wayleaves and Consents.

Financial and Reconciliation process
• The Project Managers will support the Senior Project Manager with the reconciliation of Month end /Year end contractor invoices
• Act as a support to the Programme Operations Manager to ensure the finance teams can manage the account processes to accommodate EEPW/ NEC/ RRP and other standards and business requirements.

Training and Communications

• Manage contractor communications and ensure alignment
• Support the Programme Operations Manager in ensuring the co-ordination of contractor staff training in conjunction with Contracts Management and the development of all Capital Programme Delivery staff in accordance with the proposed training and development plans.
