Purpose of Post
To optimise plant reliability, safety and efficiency across the refinery by providing technical materials and corrosion expertise.

Roles and Responsibilities
• Provide a technical reference expertise and support to the refinery with regard to corrosion and materials issues; liaising closely with the Inspection Group, Process Engineers; Area Mechanical Engineers and other engineering specialists as appropriate.
• Identify, initiate and manage the implementation of corrosion mitigation / materials improvement projects for the refinery.
• Participate in Mechanical Fixed Equipment Functional Work Group (FWG); primarily responsible for developing, implementing and optimising area specific (and refinery wide) Equipment Maintenance Strategies (EMS) for Corrosion Control and Management.
• Compile monthly corrosion report against established corrosion KPI’s in accordance with refinery corrosion EMS. Work closely with the Inspection Group with respect to interpreting corrosion survey results and management of the survey programme.
• Work with the refinery’s chemical treatment vendor and continuously review and monitor performance with respect to corrosion related KPI’s.
• Responsible for reviewing process changes and condition identified by the asset teams which could affect corrosion; implement monitoring and/or treatment where required. Takes part in engineering reviews and approval of plant modifications (Management of Change) where required.
• Represent Coryton interests in corporate-wide corrosion and materials networks and relevant industry specific technical bodies and forums to ensure that new technology and materials are adopted where beneficial to the business
• Responsible for refinery wide corrosion awareness programme (as part of the basic care programme) by educating all relevant refinery personnel in basic corrosion awareness and anomaly reporting.
• Ensure discipline specific input is given to refinery wide objectives on safety and reliability including input to the definition and upkeep of Operating Envelopes; Process Engineering Reviews (PER’s); corrosion loop identification; Reliability Centred Maintenance (RCM) studies etc.
• Participate in, and facilitate where appropriate, material failure analysis investigations. Participates and provides input to any subject relevant equipment, environmental or safety related incident investigation.
• Responsible for ensuring that own knowledge is captured effectively and transferred to and from others as appropriate.
• Responsibility for control of Major Accident Hazards as relevant to your post as described in the Control of Major Accidents and Hazards [COMAH] Establishment Report for Coryton Refinery [Section 5.1.1].

• Proficient in the use of Computerised Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) system to collate and analyse data.
• Ability to work closely within discipline specific and multifunctional teams recognising and balancing functional needs against area requirements.

Qualifications and Experience
Qualifications
• Technical competence within corrosion and materials engineering discipline (Degree level qualification or comparable; Chartered status preferred).

Experience
• Ten years relevant experience, at least five years within a petrochemical plant.
