BAE Systems has secured a £400m contract to provide radar and sub-systems support on the Typhoon fleets for German, Italian, Spanish and UK air forces.
The five-and-a-half-year contract will see the defence-equipment group operate as prime contractor for the system level design of the radar and defensive aids sub systems (DASS) on the Typhoon swing-role fighter aircraft, with support from Euroradar and Eurodass.
BAE Systems has previously worked with the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) to develop an integrated engineering support solution.
According to BAE, it has come up with a range of services that will reduce support costs and improve reliability of equipment.
BAE Systems estimates that the contract will provide a 50 per cent saving for the MoD compared with previous repair contracts for the radar and DASS on the Typhoon.
It also claims it has changed the way the contract will be delivered by placing greater incentive on resolving technical problems more quickly and reducing the volume of repair activity undertaken.
The latest contract follows a three-year support services agreement for the Royal Saudi Air Force (RSAF) Typhoon fleet awarded to the group earlier this week.
In March this year, BAE Systems was also awarded a five-year £450m contract by the MoD for the maintenance and support for the Typhoon aircraft.
