Infiniti and Renault Formula One Team launch 2016 Engineering Academy

Nissan’s Infiniti division is partnering with the Renault Formula One Team for its 2016 Engineering Academy, where six young engineers will be selected for the programme.

Infiniti is working with Renault on the energy recovery system for the French manufacturer’s 2016 Formula One engine. The Engineering Academy will see participants spending time with both Infiniti and the Renault team over the course of a year, with a view to kick-starting their careers in Formula One.

“Year on year, we continue to strive to improve the Academy, and now, with our new and deep-reaching Technical Partnership with the Renault Sport Formula One Team, we can offer six engineers a truly technically rich, multi-discipline engineering placement,” said Tommaso Volpe global director of Infiniti Motorsport.

“Not only will they spend six months at the Infiniti Technical Centre for Europe (Cranfield, UK), they will also experience the facilities at the Renault Sport Formula One Team base in Enstone, Oxfordshire. Combining opportunities to work at both companies means our 2016 Infiniti Engineering Academy winners are set to craft their careers from the outset with an incredible 12 months at the cutting-edge of big business automotive and motorsport engineering.”

Now in its third year, the Academy will take on one engineer from each of six regions: China, Europe (including Russia), Canada, Mexico, Asia & Oceania, and the Middle East. The United States is set to be confirmed as a seventh region later in the year. Those selected will work across both road car and race car hybrid systems.

“We are looking for excellent students offering a mix of academic and professional experience across such disciplines as electronics, aerodynamics, mechanical design and composite design,” explained Bob Bell, Renault Sport F1 chief technical officer.

“The academy offers a compelling opportunity for up-and-coming engineers to experience the fundamentals of automotive and motorsport engineering”.

All applicants must be fluent in English, be a current engineering student, and be able to attend a regional final this summer. Successful candidates will commence their placement in October.
