What’s the biggest factor preventing greater take-up of photovoltaic energy in the UK?

It’s not the unreliable British weather that’s holding back solar energy in the UK, according to a large majority of the 537 respondents to last week’s poll. The largest group of respondents, 39 per cent, thoyught it was uncertainty over government policy, subsidies and tariffs that was the biggest break on greater deployment of photovoltaics, while 20 per cent blamed the cost of equipment. The unavailability of enertgy storage technologies was the main concern of 15 per cent, and 11 per cent thought it was down to the inefficiency of solar cells. Just 7 per cent thought the weather was to blame, and 8 per cent declined to pick an option.
