Lime products company Singleton Birch adds new sizer

Singleton Birch Ltd, the UK’s largest independent manufacturer of lime products, has recently installed a Type S2056EL Mogensen sizer to replace a machine, which had been in service for about 28 years. The Sizer, a 2-metre, 5-deck machine fitted with Mogensen-designed electric heating to the two lowest decks, is handling 70tph of crushed chalk in the size range 0 – 10mm, and removing 63tph of material finer than 3mm. Mogensen has supplied a total of 19 machines to Singleton Birch over the past 40 years. During this time it has been necessary to replace only two of these machines. The range of machines installed includes 0.5-, 1.0-, 1.5-, 2- and 3-metre sizers, two small conventional Mogensen screens and two large vibratory spreader feeders.

Processing duties at Singleton Birch include screening and feeding of a variety of relatively fine sizes of crushed chalk and burnt lime. Most feed sizes are less than 15mm and the separations are principally in the range 4.5mm to 1mm: an exception involves the difficult duty of screening of 30tph of burnt lime to remove 7tph of fines <0.15mm.

Singleton Birch is based in North Lincolnshire and manufactures products, which include graded chalk, quicklime, hydrated lime and aggregates. The company has been quarrying Lincolnshire chalk for almost 200 years and today produces 400,000 tonnes of lime and over 1 million tonnes of chalk annually, supplying materials mainly to the steel, chemical, building and environmental industries.
