GE Engine Services awarded $83 million maintenance contract

GE Engine Services has been awarded a $83 million contract by Copa Airlines to maintain the carrier's CFM56-7 engines powering its 16 Boeing 737-700 aircraft.

GE Engine Services (GEES) has been awarded a $83 million, 12-year maintenance agreement by Copa Airlines to maintain the carrier's CFM56-7 engines powering its fleet of 16 Boeing 737-700 aircraft.

Under terms of the agreement, GEES will perform engine maintenance in accordance with GE's Maintenance Cost Per Hoursm (MCPHsm) program.

The program uses GE Engine Services' maintenance network, engineering resources and program management expertise to maintain an individual customer's fleet based on a flat rate per engine flight hour, enabling the customer to forecast operating costs with greater accuracy.

'GE's willingness and ability to customise a program that specifically met our needs was a key contributor in our decision,' said Pedro Heilbron, executive president of Copa Airlines. 'This agreement reflects Copa's commitment to have the youngest and most reliable fleet in the market.'

CFM56-7 maintenance work will be conducted at GE's Strother Field facility near Arkansas City, Kansas.

In addition to CFM56-7 engines, GE will continue to perform maintenance on the airlines remaining JT8 engines powering its fleet of Boeing 737-200s. The work will be carried out at GE's Celma facility in Brazil.
