Magneto-opticals are USB compatible

Dave Wilson

Fujitsu Asia has launched a range of USB compatible magneto-optical (MO) storage drives.

Available in capacities of 1.3GByte and 640MByte, the DynaMO 1300U1 and DynaMO 640U1 weigh 630g, 35% lighter and smaller than the previous models.

The USB drives achieve data transfer rates of up to 5.92MByte/s using 1.3GByte media and up to 3.9MByte/s using conventional 640MByte media. They offer random accessibility, fast rotational speed of up to 4,558rpm and a seek time of 23ms.

As with all Fujitsu MO drives, the new USB drives offers backward compatibility with existing MO media with capacities ranging from 128Mbyte to 640Mbyte. They offer unlimited rewritability and read/write capability to 1.3GByte GIGAMO standard media. DynaMO 1300U1 and DynaMO 640MByte are compatible with Mac OS 8.6 onwards, and PCs running on Windows 98, ME and 2000 Professional.

The DynaMO 1300U1 and DynaMO 640U1 retail at S$699 and S$620, respectively, and come complete with driver software, interface cable and one MO media. Both models are available now through Fujitsu authorised distributor, Systems Technology Pte Ltd and its appointed dealers.
