A transmission technology firm in Thatcham, Berkshire, has unveiled an axis-drive marine propulsion system designed to provide zero power loss from engine to propeller.
Xtrac, which specialises in producing transmissions for the motorsport industry, has developed its technology to be used by South African marine engineering group, Caudwell Marine. The propulsion system was on show in June 2009 at the Autosport International trade exhibition in Birmingham, UK.
Speaking ahead of the event, the company's development director, Cliff Hawkins, said: ‘We took a fresh look at the outdrive market and created a very different design to the Axis Drive's rivals.’
This is the first full-scale marine project the company has been involved in. However, the group said it plans to expand its product offering further, to areas such as aerospace.
