What is claimed to be a world first in power monitor technology is to be unveiled next month by UK-based ProtoDel at the OFC in Anaheim, CA.

What is claimed to be a world first in power monitor technology - the key to measuring and controlling fibre optic signals - is to be unveiled by UK-based ProtoDel at next month's optical communications event, OFC in Anaheim, CA.

ProtoDel's non-invasive in-line Power Monitor uniquely operates solely within the evanescent field of the optical transmission, allowing the optical signal to pass uninterrupted and therefore allowing record low loss and back reflection performance.

'This device not only marks a breakthrough in not interfering with the original signal but replaces the need for other components such as couplers, taps and detectors. It has also smashed all the current records for low signal loss,' said Dr Ian Giles, CEO and founder of ProtoDel.

The ProtoDel monitor has an insertion loss of less than 0.2dB, near zero back reflection (less than -70 dB) and a PDL of less than 0.1dB.

Developed at ProtoDel research and development headquarters in London, England, it has been designed to be Telcordia compliant (Telcordia - 1221 - CORE).
