US Marine Corps opts for Raytheon's supply chain management system

Raytheon has been awarded contract extensions worth $12.2 million by the US Marine Corps to continue the supply chain management of spare parts at two Marine Corps maintenance centres.

Raytheon has been awarded two one-year contract extensions by the US Marine Corps to continue the supply chain management of spare parts for maintenance centres in Georgia and California.

The estimated $12.2 million Direct Vendor Support contracts will extend the period of performance through to September 2003.

According to a statement, Raytheon will continue to provide full inventory management services directly to the two maintenance centres for pre-expended bins and rotation stock using its Real Time Logistics(SM) (RTL(SM)) process.

RTL(SM) is said to offer 'just-in-time' inventory management while reducing costs by combining proven processes and streamlined management procedures with a powerful information technology (IT) system. It reduces material investment, allows for order optimisation, and improves supply availability while improving response and delivery time.

Major weapon systems currently being supported at the two maintenance centres, based in Albany and Barstow, include the M1A1 Abrams Main Battle Tank, M88 Retriever, MK48 Trucks, Light Armoured Vehicles (LAV), and Assault Amphibian Vehicles (AAV).
