Warthog equipment contract

Thales UK has announced a £20m contract with Singapore-based Warthog manufacturer ST Kinetics to install key mission systems in more than 100 of the all-terrain armoured vehicles on order with the Ministry of Defence (MoD).

Equipment to be installed by Thales under the urgent operational requirement includes additional armour, specialist electronic countermeasure equipment and communication tools.

According to Thales, this will bring them in line with UK theatre-entry requirements before deployment in Afghanistan.

In December 2008, the MoD awarded ST Kinetics more than £150m to convert more than 100 Bronco vehicles into Warthog vehicles for UK armed forces.

The Warthog will be supplied in four variants - repair and recovery, troop carrier, ambulance and command vehicle - each powered by a 7.2-litre engine, producing 350bhp.
