CO2 isn't a pollutant, but many of the alternative processes do create more pollution such as ground level ozone from ethanol; N2O emissions from fertilizer used to grow biofuel feedstock; Hydrogen leaks that combine with hydroxyls in the air that otherwise would remove atmospheric methane. Burying CO2 not only adds about 20% to the energy production requirement, it's not even a guarantee to contain it.
