In terms of generating electricity, one of the issues is the magnitude of electrical energy consumption. In other words, the renewable methods, whilst good in terms of pollution levels, are unlikely to provide an immediate answer against the present demand for electrical energy. In addition, with nuclear power stations taking a notably longer time to instigate when compared to fossil fuel based systems, there is clearly a commercial bias towards using fossil fuels. The other element to consider is how to deal with the problems associated with the use of fossil fuels within power stations. It must be possible to use engineering skills to solve the problems of pollution, CO2 emissions, etc., and being in one location, per power station, must make this a viable, interim solution, albeit with an increased financial outlay when compared to conventional power stations.
