The Image of the Engineer film festival

21 - 24 June 2012

Almost everything we do in the modern world relies upon a skeleton of engineering, though it may be hidden or forgotten. Join Open City Docs Fest, London’s biggest documentary festival, and UCL Engineering to explore the social, moral and political context of modern engineering in the festival strand ‘The image of the Engineer’, running from the 21st to the 24th of June.

In 7 screenings and a public panel discussing 'The Fall of the Engineer', Open City invites you to explore the position of the engineer in the modern world: to consider the social, moral and political context of the technical feats of modern engineering.

With films taking us from the quarantined spaces of the nuclear industry, through the moral maze of planned obsolescence, and up to the roof of the world in the Atlas Mountains, as electricity and, with it, television, come for the first time to an isolated villager, we invite you to join us in considering what could restore the glamour to a profession at the foundation of all our lives.
