It is really important to make this sort of effort. Manufacturing and Engineering may well be at the forefront of development in the UK, however our young people are mostly blind to this.
There is a real need to engage young people in the relevance of these sectors to their lives and that many of them should be looking this way as a serious career option.
I have been involved in education for some 25 years and have promoted Design Education in my early years to good effect. I have now moved firmly into the fields of Manufacturing and Engineering as was the sole deliverer of the Manufacturing Diploma in Kent and quite possibly the UK at Level 3. Education was responding to the needs and wants of Industry but the change of Government has seen any form of Vocational Education rundown by Mr Gove as worthless.
Education and especially Industry need to convince Mr Gove that the UK needs young people to be engaged in Manufacturing and Engineering from the age of 14 or earlier to get these young people motivated into developing skills and knowledge to support them into Higher Education and Apprenticeships.
Come on you great industrialists.. now is the time to show the Government how they can support you best.
