Record producer Steve Levine talks about electric cars

The Engineer visited Grammy-winning producer Steve Levine to talk about his work designing sound for electric vehicles

Producer Steve Levine is using the expertise he’s gained in over 30 years in the music industry to develop soundscapes for electric vehicles, working with Lotus Engineering and Harmon. He talked to features editor Stuart Nathan about the psychology of sound, the potential of digital signal processing, and how to decide what a car should sound like.

  • I listened all the way through this video, and it was only in the very last section that Steve mentioned the noise that was audible to the outside world. This is what is most important - letting people (particularly those with impaired vision) know that a vehicle is approaching.
