ABB awarded $40m power contract

ABB has won a $40m order for equipment to help strengthen the electricity grid in Brazil's most populous state, Sao Paulo.

ABB will deliver four substations whose total installed power is said to be enough to supply a city of about 100,000 people. The work for Companhia de Transmissão de Energia Elétrica Paulista (CTEEP), the power transmission company in Sao Paulo, is scheduled for completion within about 14 months.

ABB will install the equipment in the cities of Ribeirão Preto, Sumaré, Santa Cabeça and Capivara. It will also oversee the civil works, installation and commissioning of the system.

CTEEP operates more than 11,780km of transmission lines in Sao Paulo, which is home to more than one-fifth of Brazil's population and to the country's main industrial and economic centres.
