All quiet on the pump front

An unusual motor through which hydraulic fluid passes directly is the result of a collaborative venture between Baldor and the pump manufacturing division of Vickers. The motor itself was developed for an integrated motor pump (IMP) and the result was a design that offers lower noise and lower vibration.

The motor allows hydraulic fluid to flow through it, carrying the heat from the motor, eliminating cooling fans. In conventional designs, it is the fan that creates much of the noise and adds to the physical size. Since air flow is not required for the IMP, the assembly can be housed in a sound absorbing housing, reducing noise further.
