Allied Aerospace wins Virgin contract

Allied Aerosystems, a Pontypridd-based company that specialises in avionic ground support equipment repair and calibration, has won a major contract from Virgin Atlantic.

Under the terms of the contract, Allied Aerosystems will manage the maintenance contract for ground support test equipment for Virgin Atlantic’s entire fleet operating from Heathrow and Gatwick.

The Welsh Assembly’s International Business Wales (IBW) team helped Allied Aerosystems develop its strategy for winning more overseas business.

Allied Aerosystems, which also has a base in Heathrow, has already doubled the size of its south Wales facility to cater for the new contract and support existing customers.

It has invested heavily in new equipment and improved capacity, has created dedicated laboratories for measuring torque and mass, and has expanded the capacity of its pressure measurement and linear measurement laboratories and the electronics calibration and repair laboratories.

The aerospace industry plays a key role in the Welsh economy, with more than 180 companies employing in excess of 20,000 people.
