Alstom builds Algerian power plant

Alstom has won a €310m turnkey contract to build a gas-fired power plant in Algeria.

The contract with the Algerian state-owned gas and electricity company Société de l’Electricité et du Gaz (SONELGAZ) will see the building of an open cycle plant in Relizane, western Algeria.

Two GT13E2 gas turbines and two air-cooled turbogenerators will be initially supplied by Alstom, which is also negotiating the delivery of a third batch.

In 2003, Alstom built a turnkey power plant in F’Kirina, east of Algiers.

According to Alstom, this new project will meet the demand for power in Algeria, which has increased at a rate of five per cent each year due to industrial developments.
