AMEC expands in Teesside

International project management and services company AMEC has opened a new design and engineering centre in Teesside.

AMEC has relocated 150 designers from AMEC’s office in Wallsend, Tyne and Wear to the new facilities at WynyardPark to enable the company to further create new jobs, including posts for trainees and graduates. The number of personnel should rise to around 300 over the next year.

AMEC has been established in the North East for more than 35 years. According to the company, its move to new premises in the region will enable it to meet the growing demand for its oil and gas services around the world.

AMEC is already a major employer in the Teesside region, with some 700 people located at offices in nearby Darlington, from where the company’s Industrial division carries out complex power, process and utilities work across the UK for companies such as National Grid.

AMEC and Regional Development Agency One NorthEast worked together on the company’s expansion into WynyardPark.

AMEC also announced that it will be funding an Engineering Bursary Scheme for a student from Northumberland, Durham, Tyne and Wear or Teesside to attend NewcastleUniversity, through its long association with the Community Foundation serving Tyne & Wear and Northumberland.
