Manufacturers that have a way to access and read real-time data information on the plant floor and administer critical operations have a serious competitive advantage.
So developers at GE Fanuc Automation have provided them with the means to do just that, courtesy of the Windows CE operating system.
The product itself, dubbed Pocketview, allows its users to gain mobile access to GE Fanuc’s Cimplicity product line wherever they are in the plant.
Pocketview is a hardware and software bundled product that uses a wireless link to connect to an HMI server and display Cimplicity screens and data on palmtop computers. Existing Cimplicity screens are displayed on the palmtop without modification – screens are automatically resized to fit the display.
Pocketview is useful for maintenance engineers who must move around different areas of a plant. They can now view Cimplicity graphics and enter process information where they are working, without returning to a stationary terminal.
GE Fanuc Automation introduced mobile access to its Cimplicity product line with PocketView, running on Microsoft Windows CE, at the National Industrial Automation Show.
