Aston supports businesses keen to develop photonics

Aston University in the UK is offering free support and guidance to businesses that are keen to develop photonics-based technologies such as fibre optics and laser sensors.

The £600,000 project — open to small and medium-sized enterprises in the West Midlands — is designed to help raise awareness of how photonics can fundamentally change existing technologies and improve business growth and manufacturing productivity.

Photonics is said to be one of the fastest-growing areas of research and technology. Photonics-based applications include telecommunications, data storage, optical imaging and medical diagnostics.
