Atkins venture set to support Hurricane Sandy clean-up

The US Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has awarded Atkins a contract to support its efforts to clean up and rebuild the north-eastern region of the US following Hurricane Sandy.

As part of FEMA’s efforts to support the mobilisation of state and federal resources, the agency has contracted Disaster Solutions Alliance (DSA), a joint venture between Atkins and URS, an international engineering and design consultancy, to help provide temporary housing for people affected by the storm.

All services will be performed under the joint venture’s existing FEMA Individual Assistance — Technical Assistance Contract (IA-TAC). The mission of FEMA’s Individual Assistance Division (IAD) is to ensure that individuals and families who have been affected by disasters have access to the full range of FEMA programmes in a timely manner and with the best possible level of service.

DSA’s services include designing and constructing sites for temporary housing groups, as well as transporting and installing temporary housing units.
