BAE Systems acquires Fairchild Imaging technology

Defence, security and aerospace company BAE Systems is to acquire Fairchild Imaging, a privately held company specialising in solid-state electronic imaging components, cameras and systems for aerospace, industrial, medical and scientific imaging applications.

BAE currently owns 8.7 per cent of the equity of Fairchild Imaging and, upon completion of the acquisition for approximately $86m (£54m), will have acquired all of the remaining outstanding equity.

According to the company, the addition of Fairchild Imaging’s advanced electronic imagery technology will support enhanced night-vision capability for both airborne and land forces applications.

Fairchild Imaging employs around 150 people at its facility in Milpitas, California, and will become part of BAE Systems’ Electronic Solutions sector, headquartered in Nashua, New Hampshire.
