This week’s video is brought to you by Insenth, a Chinese company claiming to have developed the world’s first augmented reality display for cyclists.
Dubbed Senth IN1, the system – which can be paired to a smartphone – comprises cycling glasses, a handlebar mounted thumb controller, and Ineth OS to bring a plethora of on-road data to life.
The company is 97% toward raising $40,000 on Indiegogo, the finer details of which can be found here.
Looks like a really neat idea, it would also be nice to integrate a rear facing camera, under the seat or on the end of the outside handlbar to project an image into the corner of the eye to aid rear view vision.
Is it just me, or does this look stunningly similar to Google Glass?
It might sound very old fashioned, but why would anyone want it?
I can see no reason why any cyclist needs additional distractions, I spend most of my time pedaling and trying to stay alive when cycling.
No map function?
Be good for off-road way-finding using GPS when MTBing. Wouldn’t want to use it on the road in traffic though.
Quite frankly, given the standard of cycling in general in this country, the LAST thing that most of the incompetents need is additional distraction.
If it connects to a smart phone, one would presume all phone functions will eventually be available, including maps.
Quite frankly, given the standard of DRIVING in general in this country, anything that will help cyclists ride safely is welcome.
What it lacks is an algorithm to warn you that an incompetent car driver or motorcyclist is about to fly around the next blind bend and wipe you out.
