Small businesses with a product or service that reduces greenhouse gases could benefit from Shell Springboard, which is now open for a fourth round of applications.
The fund will make awards of between £20,000 and £40,000 in early 2009.
To be eligible, a product or service must lead to a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions, be commercially viable and innovative.
The scheme only applies to companies that have been in business for at least three months, as a sole trader or employing fewer than 250 people.
Last year, Carbon8 Systems - a project that can turn everyday rubbish from landfill into building materials such as bricks - scooped the top prize.
Based in Kent, the company won the award for its accelerated carbonation process, beating off competition from more than 130 other Springboard entrants throughout the UK.
