Alfa Laval has received an order for a black liquor evaporation plant from West Coast Paper Mills, India, worth about SEK 60m (€6.5m).
Alfa previously provided similar equipment in 2001 and delivery of the new plant is scheduled for 2008.
Black liquor is a by-product obtained from the cooking of fibrous raw material used in paper mills. It can be reused as fuel in the mill’s boiler to produce steam or power after being concentrated in an evaporation plant. This reduces the environmental impact of the mill as the recovery is ‘pollution-free’.
The plant uses a tailor-made AlfaCond condenser which ensures that 95 per cent of the condensed water can be recycled.
