has been awarded a contract by the Japanese trading house

Mitsui & Co.

to install the first modern signalling system in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS).

The order, which will be supplied to Uzbekistan Railway company Uzbekistan Temir Yollari, will be delivered by a consortium led by Bombardier with Belam Riga - a Nortel Gold Solutions partner in the CIS and the Baltics – as the junior partner providing telecommunications and installations works.

The total contract value is approximately €29m, of which Bombardier’s share is approximately €14m.

The new signalling system will be installed on the Tashguzar – Kumkurgan line, which is more than 200km in length serving 17 stations in Southern Uzbekistan. Bombardier will provide its EBI Lock 950 computer-based interlocking systems, object controllers and wayside equipment including point machines, LED signals, level crossings, axle counters and track circuits as well as supervising all design, engineering and installation.

The systems will be produced in Sweden, with signalling works being provided principally by Bombardier Transportation (Signal), Russia. Delivery is scheduled to commence during 2009.
