Borden integrates supply chain

Aspen Technology has announced a software licensing and services agreement with Borden Chemical for the deployment of the Aspen eSupply Chain Suite, including Strategic Analyser and B2B Foundation, throughout the company’s Performance Resins and Forest Products Resins business units.

The Performance Resins Group provides resin systems used in a wide range of industrial applications to produce electronic components, automotive castings and brake pads, fibre optic cabling, insulation and other products. The Forest Products business produces formaldehyde-based resins, adhesives and other materials for oriented strandboard, plywood, laminated veneers, composite panels, and structural lumber.

“We were impressed with Aspen Technology’s ability to install, configure and integrate its software into our business environment in only two weeks,” said Edward Huller, vice president, supply chain for Borden Chemical.

Borden Chemical’s supply-chain software selection process included three detailed scenarios which vendors were required to solve. The scenarios included forecasting demand based on two years of shipment history, optimising distribution, production and inventories for a five-plant business unit, and scheduling over 600 products on 21 work- centres. The vendors were also required to integrate with Borden’s SAP R3 system during the two-week pilot. Borden Chemical selected Aspen Technology based on the superior performance of its solution during this analysis.
