BT has been awarded a £125 million contract to install and manage a consolidated, company-wide integrated voice and data telecommunications solution for Abbey National.
According to a statement from BT, the contract will contribute to the implementation of a new IP VPN (Internet Protocol Virtual Private Network) aimed at modernising Abbey National’s telecommunications infrastructure.
Once the new IP VPN is installed by autumn 2003, Abbey National will be able to implement new applications. These include the planned introduction of CRM (Customer Relationship Management) software and voice over IP (VoIP) throughout its branches.
The new infrastructure will be built on the BT Transform platform, which is based on Internet Protocol (IP) technology. IP technology enables businesses to access a broad portfolio of voice, data and video services and applications through a single, high bandwidth network.
