Siemens Transportation Systems (TS) and its consortium partner Kiepe Elektrik have been awarded an order by the Budapest transit authority (BKV Rt.) to supply 40 type Combino low-floor tramcars.
The contract was officially signed in Budapest yesterday, April 23, and is worth approximately 150 million Euros to the Siemens-led consortium.
The Combinos for the Hungarian capital are the first articulated vehicles to be designed with a total of nine sections. With a length of 53 metres and width of 2.40 metres, these double-ended, standard gauge Combinos will accommodate 351 passengers, with 72 seated and 279 standing.
They will be built at Siemens’ Krefeld-Uerdingen plant in Germany. Delivery is scheduled to start early in 2005 and end in 2006.
