Burton’s Biscuit Company has created a new team dedicated to developing and deploying its engineering strategy.
The team of four will be led by Derek Harris, in the newly created position of engineering development manager.
The company created the team in recognition of the benefits that an engineering strategy focused on proactive maintenance could deliver. It follows continued investment in the company’s manufacturing operations, which has been focused on innovative technology to guarantee quality and maximise output. In developing standardised proactive processes and practices, the team will drive continuous improvement in engineering across the company.
The announcement comes after Burton’s committed to investing £1m over the next four years in developing new engineering talent, primarily through a newly launched apprenticeship programme, and collaboration with the Food and Drink Federation and Sheffield Hallam University on its MEng Food Engineering degree, launching in September 2014.
