Business barges

Small technology companies could soon find themselves afloat with the arrival of three business barges at Hale Wharf on the New River as part of the riverside regeneration of Tottenham.

Supported by the London Development Agency (LDA) and British Waterways, the £1m scheme will provide accommodation for small businesses within the creative, cultural and IT sectors.

The three boats – Renaissance, Judith and Belle – are part of a wider vision to provide Tottenham with a thriving urban centre and a new high quality waterfront.

British Waterways’ regeneration projects manager Tav Kazmi said: ‘These striking commercial barges are part of a plan to breathe new life into the area’s waterway, and provide a distinctive and modern working environment in the heart of one of the capital’s principal growth areas with excellent transport links. Ideal for small to medium sized enterprises, these floating work spaces would suit businesses from the creative, cultural and high tech industries.’

The boats join the development of the Tottenham Hale masterplan, which has identified the potential for up to 2500 residential units and thousands of new jobs.
