Cable contract

Seabed Power has been awarded a contract for the transportation, installation and testing of submarine cables for the Ormonde Offshore Wind Farm by Vattenfall subsidiary Ormonde Energy.

The Chelmsford-based company will be responsible for the delivery and maintenance of 132kV export and 33kV array submarine cables to the wind farm located in the eastern Irish Sea off the north-west coast of England. The site, consisting of 30 wind turbines, will see the largest UK deployment of 5MW turbines to date.

Stephen Stuart-Matthews of Ormonde Energy said: ‘Cable installation on a wind farm project is highly specialised work and is of critical importance to a project’s success. The Ormonde project team has selected Seabed Power for the cable installation work due to its demonstrable experience with other major offshore wind projects.’

Seabed Power has been involved in the installation of power cables for a number of UK Round 1 and 2 windfarm projects, as well as projects in the Netherlands, Denmark, Germany and Norway. The latest contract with Ormonde Energy is scheduled to begin in June 2010.
