Canadian Navy navigates towards Sperry

Public Works and Government Services Canada and the Canadian Department of National Defence have awarded two contracts to Northrop Grumman for the upgrade and support for the inertial navigation systems (INS) on Canadian Navy ships and submarines.

The $15.9m contracts, awarded to Northrop Grumman’s Sperry Marine division, consists of a $11.8m contract to supply navigation data distribution systems (NDDS) for the MK49 INS on 12 frigates, and a five-year $4.1m in-service support (ISS) contract for the MK49, MK39 and NDDS units in Canada’s naval fleet.

Under the ISS contract, Sperry Marine will manage spare components and provide onboard service and technical support for the INS systems on Halifax frigates, Iroquois destroyers, Victoria submarines and Protecteur supply ships.
