(GMPTE).

Carillion finished the work after a 55-day shutdown of the line, while teams from Carillion Rail, Carillion Regional Civil Engineering and SkyBlue relaid 7640m of tracks.

Other work included 500m of new drainage, design tamping and rail grinding on tracks that were not being renewed and the reconstruction and upgrade of 11 platforms.

‘All efforts are now focused on completing works on the Bury line, which is scheduled for completion on 10 September 2007,’ said project manager Anthony Slater.

GMPTE awarded the £20m contract for track replacement to Carillion in October last year, and covers the replacement of 32km of track on the Bury and Altrincham lines.
