Bombardier Transportation and its joint venture partners, Power Corporation of Canada and China South Locomotive and Rolling Stock Industry (Group) Corporation have been awarded an additional order from China’s Ministry of Railways for the delivery of 38 intercity passenger cars.
This follows an order for 300 of the same cars awarded in 1999 to the joint venture, Bombardier Sifang Power (Qingdao) Transportation Ltd., by the Ministry of Railways.
Deliveries of 17 dining cars and 21 sleeper cars, which are valued at approximately $40 million Cdn (233.6 million Chinese RMB), are scheduled to start in February 2004.
The new vehicles, which can reach a maximum speed of 160 km/h, will be produced in Qingdao, Shandong province and will operate on the Beijing-Shanghai, Beijing-Harbin, Beijing-Guangzhou lines.
To date, 82 cars from the original order have been delivered to the Ministry of Railways and are in service on the Shanghai-Hangzhou, Shanghai-Nanjing, and Shanghai-Qinhuangdao lines.
