Japanese invest £7 million in UK

Japanese bearing manufacturer, NSK-RHP, is spending over £7 million to establish a UK based centre of excellence for the automotive sector.

The centre’s aim is to encourage new product development and greater activity in European automotive manufacturing. Initially two new production lines will be put in place, introducing to the market magnetic clutch bearings and a third generation of wheel hub bearings.

Global triumvirate

An alliance between Rockwell Software, Microsoft and Hewlett Packard has been established to provide integrated solutions from control through to MES and manufacturing business systems.

The key motivation behind this is Rockwell’s desire to base its products on the Microsoft infrastructure.

Spatial acquires Sven Technologies

Software developer Spatial has acquired California-based Sven Technologies for a figure believed to be around $1.25 million. Spatial claims that the acquisition will enhance the visualisation and rendering capabilities of its family of 3D products, along with providing technology for its web-based interoperability and services strategy.

Fiat reaps profits

Fiat is set to become a global leader in farm and construction equipment with the acquisition of Case. The deal takes the form of a cash merger in which New Holland (with Fiat’s backing) will acquire all of Case’s activities and joint venture stakes. The transaction is seen as providing Fiat with a greater balance of activities and a better diversification of risk, while enhancing its core automotive competencies.
