AEA to help make Dounreay safe

AEA Technology has won two contracts to support the decommissioning of the prototype fast reactor at Dounreay. The contracts, worth around £12 million include the provision of 24hr safety monitoring, analysis of radioactive material, together with the modification of equipment and the design of a new plant.

Bauer motoring in Ireland

Following an earlier installation in September 1998, Bauer has been asked by Irish Ispat to provide a further 32, 4kW geared drives for the company’s strapping machine conveyor.

From its 24hr plant, Irish Ispat manufactures 350,000ton of steel a year and feels that Bauer’s input has significantly enhanced its capability to keep to tight schedules.

Bundy’s a cool choice

Bundy refrigeration has won contracts worth over £3.5 million with fridge and freezer manufacturers on four continents. The largest of these is a £2 million deal to supply wraparound evaporator systems, small tubes, condensers, door warmers and forced draft condensers to Austria Haustechnik – a manufacturer of supermarket chiller isles.

Kenda goes to sea

Southampton-based Kenda Electronic Systems has been awarded a contract by the MoD to design and develop a data collection and analysis unit. This will replace the magnetic tape recording systems currently used for engine monitoring on Type 22 frigates. The 96 channel Windows NT based system will collect data on, amongst other parameters, temperature, shaft rotation speed, vibration and shock.
