Complex Matters launches AI light

London based design and technology company Complex Matters claims to have invented a ceiling light with artificial intelligence that changes its behaviour in response to light and movement.

The AI Light was designed by Assa Ashuach, who said it develops a personality as it adapts to the environment. As it produces new behaviours, four sensors installed to pick up on movements made in the surrounding environment allow it to manoeuvre in an unpredictable manner. The user is then able to interact with it through light and movement.

Using a software-driven design system, the light was constructed in one piece from nylon using a 3D printer, the EOS P730.

The sensors are situated above the light, pointing at various directions to optimise the chances of picking up any changes in light or movement. As it hangs off the ceiling, the AI Light spreads out in two different directions and begins to gradually rotate.
