The long terms dangers of over-use of computer keyboards have been well studied, but what about other computer peripherals? A new study to examine the health risks associated with the use of mice, joysticks and touch-screen pads has been welcomed by The Ergonomics Society. The two year study is being funded by the HSE at the Universities of Surrey and Loughbrough, and will conduct research into whether computer input devices can cause repetitive strain injury. Results from the study will be used for HSE guidelines to employers and will be published early in 2001.
