Ballymena-based Moore Concrete Products has more than doubled its export business in a year thanks to £3m worth of investments

Ballymena-based Moore Concrete Products has more than doubled its export business in a year thanks to £3m in investments, including £300,000 from Invest Northern Ireland.

Moore Concrete manufactures high quality pre-cast concrete products for the civil engineering, building and agricultural sectors. Products include slurry containers, manhole rings and barrier systems which include flood defences and retaining walls.

Invest NI’s contribution is earmarked to help implement a new export focused sales and marketing strategy and introduce new production, planning and tracing software. A new office facility is also being built.

‘As a result of this investment, our business in the wider UK and Republic of Ireland markets has already doubled, and we have projected a similar increase by the end of 2008,’ said Wilbert Moore, managing director of Moore Concrete.

The company has also secured sole rights to manufacture and distribute two innovative products under licence in the UK and Ireland. One is with Danish firm Lundsby which specialises in concrete storage tanks and the other is with US firm Redi Rock which designs retaining wall systems.

Leslie Morrison, chief executive of Invest said: ‘A revised marketing strategy, which included the recruitment of a new sales manager specifically for the Republic of Ireland market, has already secured new export business for Moore Concrete.

‘Combined with the construction of a new facility, advanced software which will encourage continuous improvement in the production area and the introduction of a new and more diverse product range, Moore Concrete has laid the foundations for strong future growth. Invest NI will continue to work with the company as it works to add value to the business and explore new export opportunities.’
