Consortium takes the Longview

Longview Power has awarded an Aker Kvaerner Songer and Siemens Power Generation consortium a series of contracts for the engineering, supply of equipment and construction for its Longview project.

The Longview project is a supercritical pulverised coal-fired generating facility in Monongalia County, West Virginia, run by Longview Power, a subsidiary of GenPower Holdings. Foster Wheeler North America Corporation will supply the boiler.

The consortium contracts have a total combined value of approximately $1.3bn with Aker Kvaerner's share valued at approximately $654m.

The Longview project is scheduled to begin February 2007 with a 48 month duration and will employ approximately 1500 construction workers at its peak.

According to GenPower, upon completion, the Longview project is expected to be one of the cleanest and most efficient coal-fired plants in the US. The project will use the highly efficient super critical boiler design and the best available pollution control technology to minimise air emissions. It is planned to generate 695 net megawatts using a Siemens Steam Turbine and air quality control system.
