Construction of Mars Express about to start

Construction of the Mars Express probe is about to start after its design was approved by the European Space Agency. Due for launch in 2003, the craft consists of a main module, instruments, a lander, a network of ground and data processing stations and a launcher. The lander, which will search for sub-surface water on Mars, will hopefully be more succesful than Nasa’s Mars Polar Lander, which vanished when it entered Mars’ atmosphere last month.
